Description
A simple recipe for homemade hamburger buns that takes 40 minutes from start to finish.
Ingredients

- 2 tbsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup + 2 tbsp warm water (≈110°F / 43°C)
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tsp salt
- 3–3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine yeast and warm water. Add oil and sugar, then let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Whisk in the beaten egg. Gradually add salt and flour until a soft dough forms.
- Using a dough hook in a stand mixer, knead 3–5 minutes until smooth and elastic. (Or knead by hand on a lightly floured surface.)
- Shape the dough into 8 equal balls. No rising needed.
- Preheat to 425°F (220°C). Line or grease a baking sheet.
- Place dough balls on the baking sheet, cover with a towel, and let rest 10 minutes. Brush with egg yolk mixed with water, then sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Bake 8–12 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- Freeze for up to 1 month.
