Description

A simple recipe for homemade hamburger buns that takes 40 minutes from start to finish.


Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup + 2 tbsp warm water (≈110°F / 43°C)
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 33 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine yeast and warm water. Add oil and sugar, then let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Whisk in the beaten egg. Gradually add salt and flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Using a dough hook in a stand mixer, knead 3–5 minutes until smooth and elastic. (Or knead by hand on a lightly floured surface.)
  4. Shape the dough into 8 equal balls. No rising needed.
  5. Preheat to 425°F (220°C). Line or grease a baking sheet.
  6. Place dough balls on the baking sheet, cover with a towel, and let rest 10 minutes. Brush with egg yolk mixed with water, then sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  7. Bake 8–12 minutes until golden brown.
