A comforting dish of beef and noodles with a creamy sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2½ cups beef broth
- 1 chicken bouillon cube
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp mustard powder
- ½ tsp dried thyme
- ½ cup heavy cream (or half and half / milk)
- 1 lb ground beef
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ lb egg noodles, uncooked
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp flour
- 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Combine sauce ingredients in a measuring cup and set aside.
- Season ground beef with salt and pepper. Cook beef and onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned. Drain grease and set aside.
- Bring a pot of salted water to a boil for the noodles.
- In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic and cook 1 minute. Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
- Gradually add sauce mixture, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Stir in cream of mushroom soup and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.
- Cook noodles to al dente, then drain.
- Reduce heat to low. Stir cheese into the sauce until melted, then add beef and noodles. Stir to combine and serve.
Notes
- Up to ¾ lb of egg noodles can be used if preferred.
- Cream of chicken soup may replace cream of mushroom.
- Mushrooms or frozen vegetables can be added near the end.
- Use low-sodium broth and soy sauce to reduce saltiness.
