Description

A comforting dish of beef and noodles with a creamy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2½ cups beef broth
  • 1 chicken bouillon cube
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp mustard powder
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ½ cup heavy cream (or half and half / milk)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ lb egg noodles, uncooked
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Combine sauce ingredients in a measuring cup and set aside.
  2. Season ground beef with salt and pepper. Cook beef and onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned. Drain grease and set aside.
  3. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil for the noodles.
  4. In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic and cook 1 minute. Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
  5. Gradually add sauce mixture, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Stir in cream of mushroom soup and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.
  6. Cook noodles to al dente, then drain.
  7. Reduce heat to low. Stir cheese into the sauce until melted, then add beef and noodles. Stir to combine and serve.

Notes

  • Up to ¾ lb of egg noodles can be used if preferred.
  • Cream of chicken soup may replace cream of mushroom.
  • Mushrooms or frozen vegetables can be added near the end.
  • Use low-sodium broth and soy sauce to reduce saltiness.
