  • 8 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced (about 67 large peaches)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for peaches)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for batter)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for sprinkling on top)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced peaches, 1 cup of sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch (if using). Mix well and set aside.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add the milk and melted butter to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased baking dish.
  6. Evenly distribute the peach mixture over the batter.
  7. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top of the peaches.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the peaches are bubbly.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
