Simple and flavorful homemade marinara sauce.
Ingredients

- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 28 oz plum tomatoes
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 3–4 tbsp fresh parsley, roughly chopped
- ¼ tsp salt
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Blend plum tomatoes using an immersion blender, blender, or food mill.
- Add tomatoes, bay leaf, Italian seasoning, parsley, and salt to the saucepan. Stir to combine.
- Simmer for about 15 minutes, or until ready to serve.
Notes
- This recipe yields 28 oz of sauce, enough for about 1 lb (16 oz) of pasta. Nutrition is per serving; recipe makes 6 servings.
- Optional additions:
- Thinly sliced beef (about 2 oz): Sauté in olive oil for 5 minutes to flavor the pan, discard, then proceed with garlic.
- Finely diced onion (3 tbsp): Cook in olive oil for 3 minutes before adding garlic.
- Fresh basil: Add 6 sliced leaves at the end of cooking.
- Fresh tomatoes can be used; skins can be removed by briefly broiling halved tomatoes until skins loosen.
