Description
Texas Roadhouse Rolls are soft, fluffy rolls with a hint of sweetness, perfect for any meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ¼ cups whole milk
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- ¼ cup honey
- 4 tablespoons melted butter, divided
- 1 large egg, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups (480 g) all-purpose or bread flour
Instructions
- Prepare Milk & Yeast – Heat milk until steaming with small bubbles on the sides (near boil), then let it cool to lukewarm (80–90°F). In a small bowl, combine milk, yeast, and honey. Let sit 5 minutes.
- Make Dough – In a large bowl, mix 3 tablespoons butter, the milk-yeast mixture, egg, salt, and half the flour. Mix slowly until smooth. Gradually add remaining flour until a dough forms.
- Knead – Knead dough for 8 minutes, then transfer to a floured surface and knead a few more minutes.
- First Rise – Spray a large bowl with cooking spray, place the dough inside, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Shape Rolls – Punch down the dough. Roll it to ½-inch thick, fold in half, and gently seal. Cut into 24 even squares. Place on 2 lightly greased baking sheets. Cover and let rise 30–40 minutes until doubled.
- Bake – Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake 12–15 minutes, until tops are light golden brown.
- Finish – Melt remaining tablespoon of butter and brush on top of rolls. Serve warm with butter.
Notes
- Make-Ahead: Dough can be prepared ahead; see blog post for 3 options.
- Yeast Tip: Use fresh yeast. For instant/rapid-rise yeast, reduce by 25% (1 ¾ tsp).
- Flour Tip: Scoop and level flour; 1 cup = 120 g.
- If Dough Doesn’t Rise: Try placing in a warm oven, using a tray of boiling water, or proofing extra yeast in warm water with sugar.
