- 12 tablespoons butter, divided (1½ sticks)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1¾ cups all-purpose flour

Instructions
- In a small light-colored pan, melt 8 tablespoons (1 stick) of butter over medium heat.
- Continue cooking for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the butter turns light brown and smells nutty.
- Pour the browned butter into a large mixing bowl, including the browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Melt the remaining 4 tablespoons (½ stick) of butter and add it to the browned butter.
- Add brown sugar and beat with an electric mixer or whisk until combined.
- Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and baking soda.
- Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until just barely combined.
- Gently fold in chopped pecans until evenly distributed.
- Refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) while dough chills.
- Scoop 1½–2 tablespoon portions onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing 2 inches apart.
- Slightly press down each dough ball to about ½-inch thickness.
- Bake for 12–14 minutes.
- Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring.
Notes
- Sprinkle coarse salt on warm cookies for a sweet-salty finish.
- For extra sweetness, roll dough balls in white sugar before baking.
- Press a whole pecan on top after baking for a decorative touch.
- Add ½ cup white chocolate chips or toffee bits for variation.
- Dark brown sugar adds deeper flavor.
