Description
Char Siu Chicken is a flavorful dish featuring marinated chicken thighs that are baked and glazed for a deliciously sweet and sticky finish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
- 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
Instructions
- Preheat to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
- In a bowl, whisk together hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, garlic, Chinese five-spice powder, and sesame oil.
- Place chicken thighs in a large resealable bag. Pour half of the marinade over the chicken, seal, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (up to overnight). Reserve the other half of the marinade for later.
- Remove chicken from fridge about 30 minutes before cooking.
- Place chicken on prepared baking sheet. Bake 25–30 minutes, until cooked through.
- While chicken bakes, pour reserved marinade into a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes until thickened.
- Brush the thickened marinade over the baked chicken. Broil for 2–3 minutes, watching closely until caramelized and slightly charred.
- Let chicken rest a few minutes, then slice and serve.
Notes
- Marinate up to 24 hours for deeper flavor.
- Add a pinch of chili flakes or chili paste for a spicy kick.
- Serve over steamed jasmine rice, fried rice, or stir-fried veggies.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
