  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Add the flour and spice mixture to the hot oil.
  4. Cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly, until fragrant.
  5. Stir in tomato paste.
  6. Gradually whisk in the broth, ensuring no lumps form.
  7. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 5–7 minutes until slightly thickened.
  8. Stir in apple cider vinegar.
  9. Remove from heat and use as desired.

Notes

  • Adjust chili powder for more or less heat.
  • If sauce thickens too much, add a splash of broth to thin.
