Homemade Glazed Doughnuts are easy to make at home
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 large egg
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar (for glaze)
- ¼ cup milk (for glaze)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add sugar, melted butter, egg, flour, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Roll out dough to about ½ inch thickness. Use a donut cutter to cut out shapes.
- Place cut doughnuts on a parchment-lined tray, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a large pot to 350°F. Fry donuts 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Dip warm donuts in glaze, let excess drip off, and place on a wire rack to set.
Notes
- Flavor Variations: Add a bit of cinnamon to the glaze or try a chocolate drizzle.
- Storage: Best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- Reheating Tip: Warm in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to revive that fresh Krispy Kreme texture.
- Oil Temperature: Keep oil at a consistent 350°F for perfect frying results.
