Description

This homemade teriyaki sauce is a quick and easy way to add flavor to your dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar (or coconut sugar)
  • ½ cup soy sauce (or reduced sodium soy sauce, tamari, or coconut aminos)
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • ½1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced or paste
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ cup cold water

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together water, sesame oil, brown sugar, soy sauce, honey, garlic, and ginger.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and cold water. Set aside.
  3. Place saucepan over medium heat and bring mixture to a gentle simmer.
  4. Slowly whisk in the slurry. Continue whisking constantly while the sauce returns to a simmer. After a few minutes, the sauce will thicken.
  5. Remove from heat once it reaches your desired thickness. It thickens more as it cools.
  6. Use immediately as a glaze or let cool completely and refrigerate.

Notes

  • Stronger Flavor: Add 1 extra tablespoon brown sugar or soy sauce for a bolder taste.
  • Gluten-Free Option: Use tamari or coconut aminos.
  • Lower Sodium: Use low-sodium soy sauce.
  • For marinade: let sauce cool completely before adding to raw meat.
  • For glaze: brush on during final minutes of cooking.
  • Refrigerate in airtight container up to 2 weeks.
  • Freeze up to 3–6 months. Thaw overnight in refrigerator before using.
