Description
This homemade teriyaki sauce is a quick and easy way to add flavor to your dishes.
Ingredients

- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar (or coconut sugar)
- ½ cup soy sauce (or reduced sodium soy sauce, tamari, or coconut aminos)
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
- ½–1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced or paste
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- ¼ cup cold water
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together water, sesame oil, brown sugar, soy sauce, honey, garlic, and ginger.
- In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and cold water. Set aside.
- Place saucepan over medium heat and bring mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Slowly whisk in the slurry. Continue whisking constantly while the sauce returns to a simmer. After a few minutes, the sauce will thicken.
- Remove from heat once it reaches your desired thickness. It thickens more as it cools.
- Use immediately as a glaze or let cool completely and refrigerate.
Notes
- Stronger Flavor: Add 1 extra tablespoon brown sugar or soy sauce for a bolder taste.
- Gluten-Free Option: Use tamari or coconut aminos.
- Lower Sodium: Use low-sodium soy sauce.
- For marinade: let sauce cool completely before adding to raw meat.
- For glaze: brush on during final minutes of cooking.
- Refrigerate in airtight container up to 2 weeks.
- Freeze up to 3–6 months. Thaw overnight in refrigerator before using.
